Work Placement is a mandatory component of assessment to gain a certificate from Enable College. It is designed for you to put into practice, in a real-life setting, the skills and theory that you will be learning. This will be done under the supervision of the staff in the organisation that has accepted you for placement with close guidance and support from our workplace trainer and assessor
Your course will have a set amount of units to complete. Each unit will have a written assessment you will need to complete satisfactorily
For practical classes, the trainer will assess you through observing you undertaking certain activities, as well as a written assessment. All units will have a work placement component that will have tasks and assessments you will need to complete either whilst on placement or as part of a project after placement has been completed.
You need to ensure you have completed the Police clearance, current Provide an Emergency First Aid Response in an Education and Care Setting certificate and Child Safe Environments course. As a minimum, you need to have completed the following units: CHCECE001, CHCECE002, CHCECE004 and CHCECE009.
This varies according to the qualification although, in the end, it is Enable College’s responsibility to ensure you have access to a suitable placement. With Individual Support qualifications, Enable College has specific agreements with organisations and will organise your work placement. With Childcare qualifications we have to manage things a bit differently as the Directors of the Childcare Centres generally want the student to approach the Centres themselves. This provides an opportunity for the Director to meet with the students to check their communication skills, attitude, and organisational skills prior to work placement. Enable College will provide students with an introductory letter and advise which centres to approach. Please note that all placements in all qualifications will be during Monday to Friday and the shift times will be allocated by the organisations hosting the work placement. Enable College will support you but remember the organisation is hosting you and they will have the final say on work times and placement agreements.
